Manchester United will aim to reach their first cup final under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when they take on Manchester City in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Solskjaer has turned United’s form around over the last month after facing increased scrutiny when they crashed out of the Champions League group stages at the start of December.

A 10-game unbeaten run in the Premier League has propelled them to the top of the table, while their 2-0 victory away at Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals ensured they are now one win away from reaching the Wembley showpiece.

And it is none other than neighbours City who stand in their way of that final, with a crucial last-four encounter to come at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

United will be without Edinson Cavani, who is serving the second of his three-game suspension for an offensive post on social media, while Victor Lindelof is a doubt to feature as he continues to recover from a back problem.

Those issues aside, Solskjaer is likely to field a full-strength lineup at Old Trafford given he will have the chance to shuffle his pack in their FA Cup third round clash with Watford at the weekend.

David de Gea should therefore get the nod in goal, sitting behind a back four consisting of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, captain Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

Scott McTominay and Fred have flourished as a central midfield partnership of late and will be expected to start in Solskjaer’s 4-2-3-1 setup once more.

Marcus Rashford should be deployed on the right flank, with Paul Pogba positioned in a role on the left and Bruno Fernandes unleashed through the middle.

And leading Solskjaer’s line against City is likely to be Anthony Martial, who scored in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa last time out.
