Jordan Henderson would be a mammoth help to Arsenal if they were able to pull of a shock deal for the Liverpool star.
It comes after news broke that the England international had made no progress with the Reds over a new contract.
With his current deal set to expire in 2023, there is plenty of time left remaining but Anfield chiefs are pondering a potential sale this summer to land as much cash before his value plummets.
Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are among the interested parties while a move to the latter seems improbable.
However, if Henderson wants to remain in the Premier League then the Emirates could be his best option.
But how could he improve the Gunners?
If there is one thing that is devoid at Arsenal, it is leaders – something they have not had for a long time.
There have been attempts to improve this through the signings of Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney but none can rival a Champions League and Premier League-winning captain.
Henderson's arrival would solve that issue immediately, instantly raising up everyone around him with his barking instructions from midfield.
With Granit Xhaka on the verge of leaving for AS Roma, Henderson can complete all of his duties – and to a better standard as well.
For every moment of brilliance from the Swiss, there are two fatal errors – something that is not in the Liverpool star's repertoire.
One skill they share is distribution from midfield, which Arsenal will miss without Xhaka or Hendo in their starting XI.
Another attribute that Henderson has is his ability to help others around him and that would be vital for the likes of Ben White and Rob Holding, who could partner each other as Arsenal's defence next season.
The Reds ace has had to do a lot of that at Anfield over the past several months with the likes of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.
After injuries to Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, the rookie duo were drafted in while Henderson also dropped back into defence for a time.

Albert Sangi Lokonga would be more than happy to play alongside Henderson, who is prepared to do the dirty work and combine with his fellow midfielders as much as possible.
For the 21-year-old, making a huge step up from the Jupiler League to the Premier League, that experience would be invaluable.
Partey is an adept midfielder but helping Lokonga settle in would be better suited to the 31-year-old, who has won the biggest prizes in club football.

As well as gaining a great midfielder, Liverpool will also be losing one at a time when they are looking to bounce back from their disastrous season protecting the Premier League.
Georginio Wijnaldum has already departed, leaving the Reds midfield ransacked, and the departure of Henderson will be deeply felt by Jurgen Klopp more than anyone.
Liverpool's loss will be Arsenal's gain, who have had their own domestic woes, and need one of the top teams to drastically weaken to stand a chance of landing a spot in the Premier League top four.
