Nottingham Forest have enquired about Besiktas centre back Romain Saiss despite the Turkish side’s reluctance to sell.

Steve Cooper’s side have been searching for a defensive signing throughout the window and have identified the former Wolves player as a potential transfer target.

Forest – who were promoted to the top-flight last year – have made three additions in the January window and are hoping to make the Moroccan international their fourth.

The 32-year-old defender forged his name in England during a six-year stint at Molineux with Wolves – where he made 206 appearances in total.

His contract at the club expired last summer and Saiss then moved to the Turkish Super Lig side, where has made 15 appearances so far.

Given Besiktas’ reluctance to sell the defender, Steve Cooper’s side also remain in talks with Atletico Madrid over veteran centre-back Felipe.

Former Porto centre-back Felipe joined Atletico Madrid in 2019, making 85 appearances for the LaLiga side.

Steve Cooper’s side are also advancing over a deal for PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas as they seek cover for the injured Dean Henderson.

The news comes as Forest close in on their another signing in the January transfer window, as Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey nears a move to Nottingham.

The Magpies man will sign a two-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground after undergoing a medical in Nottingham later today.

The ex-England international will follow Gustavo Scarpa, Chris Wood and Danilo as Steve Cooper’s January additions for his side.
