Manchester United icon Gary Neville has insisted that Red Devils supporters will be wowed by Cristiano Ronaldo over the next 12 months after his sensational return to Old Trafford was officially confirmed on Friday evening. The 20-time Premier League champions have agreed terms at club level with Juventus, who are expected to receive a fee of £15million plus another £7m in add-ons.
Ronaldo is poised to sign a two-year contract with United over the next few days upon completing a medical and receiving visa clearance.
He initially looked set to join Manchester City, who considered a move for his services after being contacted by the forward’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
However, the defending Premier League champions ultimately decided against pursuing his signature.
There were said to be internal concerns that Ronaldo would not be the right fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Neville, who made 599 appearances for United over the course of his professional career, has reacted to the five-time Ballon D’Or winner’s impending return with delight.

He told Sky Sports that supporters should be gearing up for a thrilling campaign, with the Portuguese forward set to lead the club’s Premier League title challenge over the coming months.
“What they have done here bolstered their squad with a proven goalscorer, a club legend,” said Neville.
“What it is going to do is give the club an incredible 12 months. You think about last season, fans not being in the stadium.
“But Manchester United fans are going to be absolutely rocking for the next 6 to 12 months because they are going to see one of their own come back and play in their stadium.
“And he will score goals and give them brilliant moments.”
Neville also touched on the despair of the United faithful upon learning of Ronaldo’s potential move to City on Thursday, suggesting that his former employers were right to make a quick-fire approach for his signature.
“Look, a little bit nostalgic and nostalgia doesn’t always work in football,” added the former Red Devils stalwart.
“It kicks you sometimes when you don’t expect it, but the idea of him going to Manchester City was torture for Manchester United fans.

“I said last week, if there is a big player available, Manchester United have to be in the market for that player.”
Ronaldo leaves Juventus after scoring 101 goals from 134 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants.
He played his final game for the club on Sunday when he was introduced as a substitute during the second half of their 2-2 draw at Udinese.
The Funchal-born forward will become United’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Tom Heaton and Raphael Varane earlier in the window.
