How Chelsea could line up next season with Ziyech, Werner, Havertz and two more signings

Chelsea have made quite the statement by landing two impressive signings ahead of the summer transfer window. The Blues are unlikely to stop there, however, with Frank Lampard’s squad set to be further strengthened to launch a title challenge next term.

  • Chelsea target Kai Havertz has transfer ‘agreement’ with Leverkusen

Chelsea could end up making five signings in the summer transfer window.

Hakim Ziyech was first through the door after an initial €40million (£36m) deal was agreed with Ajax.

He was followed by Timo Werner after triggering the €54m (£48.6m) release clause in his RB Leipzig contract.

Werner could be joined at Stamford Bridge by Germany team-mate Kai Havertz, who Express Sport understands is a leading target.

  • Chelsea boss Frank Lampard refuses to rule out another striker deal

Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race so Chelsea have a clear path at securing his signature.

Bayer Leverkusen have admitted they will sell if their valuation is met.

“We have our ideas, we know what he can do,” Leverkusen managing director Rudi Voller said.

“I personally hope that he stays one more year.

“We have an agreement: if it fits, he can go this summer.”

A left-back is also high on the agenda for Lampard and co.

Ben Chilwell of Leicester City is the man Lampard wants to solve the team’s problem position.

The Foxes, however, are likely to demand up to £80m due to their financial strength.

A central defender could also be on the agenda after Lampard indicated he wants tall players to solve the team’s issue of conceding from corners.

He said: “I really don’t like to talk about my own playing days but we didn’t work much at all on set pieces and there were a few reasons, mainly John Terry, Gary Cahill, Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack and [Branislav] Ivanovic.

“You’d stick it in an area and they would defend it or score goals.

“With Liverpool, I remember a lot of talk about them and set pieces a few seasons ago. They were zonal and conceding a lot.

“They signed Virgil van Dijk and he heads out everything. There’s a huge relation to personnel and if you don’t have that size, the main thing is trying to compete as hard as you can and making it difficult for other teams to score.

“But I’m not making excuses because we haven’t done that well enough and that has to improve.

“When you look at who you might bring in with the balance of the squad it is certainly something to take into account.”

According to the Daily Mail, Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres is on their radar. The 6ft 3in defender has a £45m release clause.

Torres could partner Antonio Rudger at the heart of defence, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Chilwell in the full-back positions, and Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks.

N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic could form their first-choice midfield partnership amid doubts over Jorginho’s future.

The duo would provide the platform for Ziyech, Havertz and Christian Pulisic to wreak havoc in attacking midfield.

Timo Werner is likely to lead the line, with Tammy Abraham facing a battle for a place in the team.
