Ibrahima Konate’s Liverpool timeframe for medical and when payments will be made

Liverpool have completed a deal which will see them sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman appears to be heading to Anfield this summer after a deal was “agreed” between the two sides.

It comes following an injury crisis at Anfield which saw Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip out with injury for most of the campaign.

And Anfield Central have detailed that it is now just a case of waiting for the time to take the deal over the line.

Konate is commanding a release clause of £34m, having made 94 appearances in Leipzig’s back line since arriving from second-division French side Sochaux in 2017.

The Reds are willing to pay this fee and are just waiting for the end of the Premier League season before it can be completed.

Leipzig’s French defender, though, has been hit with injury problems for the last two seasons, making just 31 appearances in total.

The 21-year-old tore a muscle in the 2019/20 season as the Bundesliga side made the Champions League semi-finals.

It kept Konate out for the start of this season while an ankle injury at the beginning of 2021 put him out of action for seven games.

Liverpool’s centre-back problems this season have seen them lose their top-flight title, sitting seven points off a Champions League spot with five games left.

Van Dijk picked up an ACL tear in the Merseyside derby against Everton last October while Gomez had a “serious knee injury” in November.

The transfer would see Liverpool beat rivals Manchester United to the defender’s signature – but the Red Devils were reluctant to sign the Leipzig star.
