Iceland vs England LIVE: UEFA Nations League updates and confirmed line ups

England will be out for revenge against Iceland in their first match of 2020. The Three Lions’ year has been disrupted by the coronavirus crisis and the team will be eager to get their UEFA Nations League campaign off to a positive start in Reykjavik.

England crashed to a humiliating defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016, although the loss sparked the managerial change that saw Gareth Southgate take charge and build an exciting team that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018.

Southgate’s squad for the Nations League clash boasts seven uncapped players including Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood.

The Manchester United hotshot could be given his first taste of international football.

Southgate said: “With him, there’s genuinely… the quality of finishing, the way he’s got this icy cold stare, very calm disposition generally which I think is clear when he’s in and around the penalty box and for somebody of his age, that’s remarkable maturity.

“And I have to say it is really rare to see a player as comfortable with both feet, not just in terms of the ability to receive and pass but finishing with both feet.

“I had to ask whether he was right or left footed. I feel slightly embarrassed, you’ve picked a player for England and you’re not sure which foot he kicks the ball with!”

England were due to be in Euro 2020 action over the summer but the COVID-19 pandemic prompted UEFA to postpone the tournament until next year.

Southgate will be looking to use the upcoming international breaks to fine tune his squad for European Championship action.
