Icelandic student details ‘night with Foden and Greenwood’ at England team hotel

The Icelandic student at the centre of the hotel scandal involving England duo Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood has opened up further on her role in the affair.

Lara Clausen,19, met Manchester City midfielder Foden, 20, and Manchester United striker Greenwood, 18, at the Three Lions team hotel last weekend.

Both Foden and Greenwood were axed by England boss Gareth Southgate, sent home in disgrace after being fined £1360 for breaking coronavirus regulations in Iceland.

The pair have since issued apologies labelling their behaviour “unacceptable.”

Now, in an interview with Mail Online, Clausen has detailed how she and her cousin, Nadia Sif Lindal Gunnarsdottir, booked rooms at the hotel before being joined by the England pair, after Nadia met Greenwood on a dating app.

Lara insists she had initially dropped off her cousin, before allegedly returning when “a player called Phil” asked Nadia if she had a friend.

“I asked on the phone who this guy was and he got offended that I didn't know him,” Lara said.

“I got his name and looked at his picture on Instagram to see what he looked like. Then I agreed to come back to the hotel.

“Phil had told me he would pay me back, but he didn't. I got room 700 on the seventh floor, and Nadia was 702. The boys were on the third floor.

“I put my stuff in my room and went to Nadia's room. The boys were not there at first. Then they came as I was in the bathroom.

“We talked for half an hour in Nadia's room. We told them we knew nothing about football and had no idea who they were. We hadn't watched the game or anything.”

Lara alleges that she and Foden then headed to her room, where they began watching TV and joking about his height.

“He was just like an average boy,” she continued. “I didn't feel he was anyone famous. We joked around a lot. He didn't tell me about his personal life, definitely not about a kid or a girlfriend.

“I told him ‘Nadia's probably bigger than you’. Then he just kissed me. He didn't reply, I didn't think. I just kissed him back. He was a good kisser.”

After both Greenwood and Foden returned to their third floor room, in the early hours of the morning according to Clausen, she claims she was awoken by security staff at the Radisson Blu hotel looking for the players.

She alleges they demanded: “‘Where are the boys? Where are the boys?'

“They turned on the lights and he looked in the bathroom and in the cupboards, looking for the players.

“We felt they didn’t treat us with any respect. They thought we were just foreign girls that didn't matter and weren't worth anything.”

Following that incident, at 9am an Icelandic newspaper called Lara telling her that photos and videos she had uploaded to snapchat would be published.

“The paper man told us that the players should have been in quarantine, and we said we didn't know. When I think about it now, I feel sorry for them being kicked out the team.

“I filmed Phil with his pants halfway down, and put it on Instagram just for my closest friends,' she said. 'But one of them recorded it and sent it to the newspapers.

“My mum screamed at me and said I should be ashamed. She was in shock because I was ended up in every paper in Iceland. My dad and brother said I had been sleeping with the enemy, as they are Arsenal fans.”

Lara claims she has since contacted Foden. She says “He was mad. He said, 'Why did you have to do it? Why did you have to take photos?'

"I tried to explain, but he just said he didn't have time for this. That was the last time we were in contact.”

Earlier this week, Ms Clausen posted on social media that it had been a “big mistake” for all parties involved.

She explained, on Instagram “Honestly with all my conscience, I did not realise how famous these guys were.

“I do not watch football and have never done, I did not realise what I was putting on the internet.

“I had to learn the hard way that not everything belongs on the internet, you have to be careful what you put on the internet.

"I did not realise it. I put this in a private story on my Snapchat and I thought it would never go any further, I did not realise who these guys were and how big it would be."

Foden and Greenwood both missed England’s match with Denmark this week.

Neither is likely to be picked by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate for the senior side’s internationals in October.

Both United and City released statements earlier this week, with City declaring that Foden's behaviour "falls well below the standard expected of a Manchester City player and England international."
