Iconic commentator Peter Drury meets fan at World Cup after request goes viral

Dreams often come true at the World Cup – but seldom are they off the pitch, and to meet a famous commentator.

But that's exactly what happened to social media star Arap Uria, who had hoped to meet Peter Drury in Qatar. Drury has earned himself a reputation as "football's poet" and fans often share his commentary on social media.

Arap shot to fame on social media for posting videos of him lipsyncing football commentary with over-the-top reactions – usual to audio of Drury. And as he jetted to Qatar for the World Cup, he took the opportunity to try and meet the man himself.

Arap was snapped holding a sign that read: "Hello Peter Drury, it's Arap Uria. I am in Qatar and I would like to meet you!"

And as he paraded the sign around the streets of Doha, Arap also took to social media with the picture, tagging Drury's colleague Jim Beglin in the tweet. The following day after the tweet went viral, Arap uploaded another snap with Drury.

He said: "Gooooal!!! Finally with Peter Drury. Many thanks @jimbeglin!"

And a fourth added: "Dreams do come true!"
