Jack Grealish signs new Aston Villa contract and ends Man Utd transfer rumours

Jack Grealish has ended months of speculation surrounding his future by signing at new long-term contract and will remain at Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old is said to have penned a five-year deal worth £140,000-a-week and puts to bed persistent speculation linking him with a summer transfer to Machester United.

Grealish played the lead role in Villa’s survival campaign last season as Dean Smith’s side ensured their top flight status on the final day following a 1-1 draw against West Ham with the club captain scoring what turned out to be the decisive goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had identified Grealish as key transfer target and had been impressed by the way in which the versatile midfielder accepted the responsibility of leading Villa to survival and coped with the pressure.

United, however, had been reluctant to pay upwards of £50million, while Jadon Sancho remains their primary target.

Villa, meanwhile, appear intent on investing heavily in their squad in what remains of the transfer window and Grealish has been sold on the vision the club’s owners have as they aim to wake the sleeping Midlands giants.

‘I am delighted to make this commitment to Villa. It is my club, my home and I am very happy here,’ said the England international.

‘The owners have made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Aston Villa. There are exciting times ahead and I am very glad to be part of it.’
