Jamie Carragher cheekily fires back at Gary Neville over Man Utd Champions League message

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher continued his debate with Gary Neville over Cristiano Ronaldo by mocking the former Manchester United defender following the Red Devils’ shock Champions League defeat by Young Boys.

United were stunned by the Swiss side despite going ahead in Bern.

Ronaldo struck the third goal of his United return but former Huddersfield boss David Wagner masterminded a surprising turnaround.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were not helped by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s first-half red card. The right-back overstretched into a tackle after taking a bad touch and caught his opponent high on his ankle.

Moumi Ngamaleu equalised in the 66th minute before Theoson Siebatcheu scored a sensational 95th-minute winner.

United legend Neville had rather overconfidently celebrated Ronaldo’s 13th-minute goal.

The former full-back alluded to a Sky Sports debate between himself and Carragher from Monday night.

The pair passionately debated the ever-lasting argument over the greatest footballer in world footballer on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Neville chose Ronaldo and faced allegations of bias from Carragher, who opted for iconic former Barcelona striker Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo opened the scoring against Young Boys, adding to his brace on debut against Newcastle United at the weekend.

Neville responded by posting to Twitter a four-second video of himself laughing. The tweet was accompanied by a goat emoji, which refers to the G.O.A.T acronym meaning Greatest Of All Time.

But Carragher had the final laugh in the argument as Young Boys produced a remarkable comeback.

The 43-year-old hit back at his former England team-mate following Siebatches’ last-minute goal.

Carragher quote-tweeted Neville’s original tweet with the sunglasses emoji.

Neville was happy to accept defeat, though, and jokingly tweeted a photo of him covering his face with his hand. He accompanied the image with the facepalm emoji.

The pair had a heated debate over Ronaldo and Messi on Sky Sports, with Neville insisting that the new United striker, who has returned for a second spell at Old Trafford, scores a wider variety of goals.

“I just feel with the international goals records, the Champions Leagues and the variety of goals that he’s scored, it takes me to think that he is the greatest football player of all time,” Neville said during a segment of the argument.

Carragher responded: “No one is not a huge fan of Ronaldo or Messi. Ronaldo is not the greatest player of all time.

“It doesn’t matter how a ball goes in the net… Messi’s got a better goal record than Ronaldo. He’s also a playmaker, Messi can run a game – Ronaldo can’t.”
