It seemed as though Ivan Perisic was linked with Manchester United every other week when Jose Mourinho was in charge.
The Croatian was a long-time target for Premier League outfit, often looking set to leave for a spell in England.
However, the winger left Serie A for Bayern Munich on loan and all talk of him joining United went cold when Mourinho left at the back end of 2018.
Now FcInterNews claim Inter Milan could offer a swap to United should they lose Milan Skriniar.
The Serie A side could lose the Slovakian to PSG, which will see them eye a move for Chris Smalling as his replacement.
Inter don't fancy paying a straight fee for the defender, who spent last season on loan at Roma.
It’s reported that a swap deal involving Smalling and Perisic would help both United and Inter ‘technically and financially’.
The 31-year-old is eyed as a potential Jadon Sancho alternative, with Borussia Dortmund dragging their heels over his price tag.
Mourinho may be left feeling stung if Perisic arrives at Old Trafford after pursuing the wide man during his time at United.
The Spurs boss has frequently praised the player over the years.
“Perisic is the kind of winger that is different from the others. Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative. But he is also physical, very physical," he said in 2018.
"Fantastic in the air. So the way he wins that ball in the air (for the winning goal) and puts the ball into that space is only possible if you are very, very physical and dominant over defenders.
