Kieran Trippier suspended for 10 weeks after breaking FA betting rules

Kieran Trippier has been suspended for 10 weeks for breaking FA betting rules.

The Atletico Madrid defender denied seven alleged breaches which are said to have occurred in July 2019.

He requested a personal hearing but an independent regulatory commission upheld four of the alleged offences.

It means Tripper, who has 25 caps for England, will be unable to play anywhere in the world until February 28.

An FA statement said: "Kieran Trippier has been suspended for ten weeks and fined £70,000, following misconduct in relation to breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.

"The Atletico Madrid defender denied seven alleged breaches of FA Rule E8(1)(b), which were said to occur during July 2019, and requested a personal hearing.

"An independent regulatory commission was appointed to hear the case, with four of the alleged breaches found proven and three dismissed during a subsequent personal hearing.

"The independent regulatory commission’s written reasons for its decisions and the associated sanction will be published in due course.

"The suspension, which includes all football and football-related activity, is effective worldwide from today (Wednesday 23 December 2020) following an application to FIFA."

Speaking last month, former Tottenham right-back Trippier insisted the charge hanging over him was not distracting him from playing for England.

“I can’t speak about anything about the FA case but I’m just thinking positive," he said. "I just need to concentrate on my football, with my club and I’m here now with England so I’m just concentrating on my football.

“Trying to give my all like I’ve done throughout my whole career and tomorrow or whenever I next play will be no different.

“My love’s always been there and it always will. I’ve just been focusing on my football for my club, for my country when I’ve been called up and, like I said, we’ve had a good start with Atletico.

“Like you guys know, I love coming away with England, every opportunity I get if I get picked by England so my thought is just enjoying my football, like I have been doing for my whole career, for my club and country.”
