Leeds eye £15m Liverpool transfer bargain as Aston Villa and Newcastle circle

Leeds want to bring Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson to the club in a deal worth just £15million. The newly-promoted side could face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle though as they look to swoop for the man who was on loan at Bournemouth this season.

The midfielder faces a battle to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans after returning to Anfield.

Wilson was the second top scorer for Bournemouth last season but it couldn’t save the Cherries from relegation to the Championship.

The 23-year-old only started one of the last nine games for Eddie Howe despite being a key man in the first half of the campaign.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa feels Wilson is capable of more and sees him as the perfect addition to his squad, according to The Sun.

Jurgen Klopp could decide to send the midfielder on loan again though as he is contracted until 2023.

Aston Villa and Newcastle also rate Wilson and could enter the race for his signature if Leeds make a bid.

Meanwhile, former Leeds star Danny Mills does not expect much more action before the window shuts in October at Elland Road.

“Bielsa as we know is not a fan of huge squads so I don’t expect too many players to come in at Leeds United,” Mills told talkSPORT.

“I think it has already been mentioned it will be players who are English-based players.

“They might not be English but they will have played in the English Football Leagues and the Premier League. I don’t see Leeds doing too much business.”

However, Mills says it will be interesting as to what happens to centre-back Ben White.

Mills added: “Leeds have the quandary of Ben White. Is he going back to Brighton? He has had a fantastic season at Leeds in the Championship and has really come to the fore.

“Does he stay? Does he go back to Brighton? Does he move elsewhere? So that needs addressing and that needs to be sorted.”

Wilson remains the youngest ever player to make an appearance for Wales.

He beat Gareth Bale’s record, winning his first cap against Belgium in 2013, aged 16 years and 207 days.

Leeds will be joined by West Brom and Fulham as the three promoted sides from the Championship for the 2020/21 Premier League season.
