Leeds star Raphinha rattled Chelsea fans with dance – but Blues had last laugh

Leeds United winger Raphinha was left with egg on his face after his over-enthusiastic celebration backfired against Chelsea.

Raphinha gave the away side the lead at Stamford Bridge on Saturday when he coolly converted his penalty after Marcos Alonso fouled Dan James in the box.

He was not shy to celebrate his seventh Premier League goal of the season, opting to stay behind after his team-mates had begun to run back for kick-off to perform a little dance in front of the home fans.

It is fair to say that the Brazilian’s jig did not go down too well with the Chelsea faithful, who were caught on camera hurling abuse at him.

That was just 28 minutes into the match at Stamford Bridge, and little did the 24-year-old know what was to come.

Mason Mount equalised from Alonso’s near-post cross before Raphinha went from hero to zero.

It was his poorly-timed challenge on Antonio Rudiger which allowed Jorginho the chance to make it 2-1 from the penalty spot and he gladly took it.

And although Joe Gelhardt grabbed his first Premier League goal from a brilliant flowing Leeds counter-attack for 2-2, the excitement didn’t last.

Mateusz Klich’s foul on Rudiger brought Jorginho to the spot again in the 94th minute and the Italian midfielder kept his cool under pressure to score and give Chelsea a dramatic 3-2 win.

Having put so much into the game, Leeds were left disappointed at the final whistle – and it showed.

Emotions spilled over, with Rudiger getting involved with Leeds left-back Junior Firpo and defender Diego Llorente as an almighty pushing match kicked off.

Chelsea fans that stuck around late after the whistle were also quick to notice another side to Raphinha.

The Brazilian was seen grinning from ear to ear while talking to Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on the pitch, prompting speculation over a possible transfer.

Chelsea are not one of the clubs who have been linked with Raphinha before, with Liverpool reportedly leading the race, but perhaps Tuchel was planting the seed for a bid.

He has certainly been impressive for Leeds since joining from Rennes for £17million in October 2020, racking up 13 goals and 10 assists in 45 games for the club.
