Leeds have been disappointing in their opening two games of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, and their lack of business in the window may prove costly.
On the opening weekend of the season, Marcelo Bielsa’s side were thumped 5-1 by Manchester United, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick and midfielder Paul Pogba registering four assists.
The Peacocks then drew 2-2 at home to Everton last weekend, going behind twice. Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring for the Toffees from the penalty spot before Mateusz Klich (41’) and Raphinha (72’) scored either side of a Demarai Gray goal.
Leeds have been rather quiet in the transfer window this summer, securing Jack Harrison on a permanent deal, signing a back-up keeper in the shape of Kristoffer Klaesson, young prospect Lewis Bate and former Barca defender Julian Firpo.
But will Bielsa’s lack of marquee signings be an issue? Will they be able to build on last season’s impressive ninth-place finish?
Here, Daily Star Sport takes a look at all the latest transfer news from around Elland Road.
Medel will not return to Prem
Leeds have been unsuccessful in their surprise attempt to sign 34-year-old Gary Medel of Bologna as the midfielder is set to sign for Elche.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Chilean midfielder was of interest to the Whites as they believed they could purchase him on a cut-price deal, which isn’t unsurprising given that he only played 11 times in the Serie A last season.
Medel made 34 appearances in the 2013/14 Premier League season for Cardiff City but he couldn’t prevent the Welsh side from finishing rock-bottom.
The midfielder looks unlikely to ever return to the English top-flight now though, as a player anyway, as La Liga side Elche look set to sign him this week.
Championship side to pip Leeds to prospect
Bielsa looks set to miss out on another transfer target as well as CSKA Moscow centre-forward Adolfo Gaich looks set to join Reading on loan.
The Argentinian striker has struggled for minutes since moving to the Russian League side in 2018, but at just 22-years-old CSKA still want to keep hold of him for the future.
The Reading Chronicle has revealed that Gaich is of serious interest to the Royals and they are looking to open negotiations with the Russian club, but they are struggling due to how cash-strapped they are.
Rodrigo Moreno and Patrick Bamford, who was called up for the England national team on Thursday, are currently the Peacocks’ only options in the final third and Bielsa was keen to add Gaich to his ranks for this season.
Brugge set Lang price
Will Leeds struggle this season if they do not make any more signings? Let us know in the comments section.
Plenty of rumours have circulated this transfer window about Leeds’ interest in Noa Lang of Club Brugge, and Voetbal Primeur has confirmed this interest and revealed the sum that Bielsa’s side will have to cough up to sign him.
Lang, 22, is a versatile winger that came through the Ajax academy. Now playing in Belgium, Lang has impressed with his acceleration, ability with both feet and creativity.
The Netherlands under-21 international scored 14 and assisted 7 on loan at Brugge last season before he made the move permanent and signed a contract that will keep him at the Belgian side until 2024.
Reports today suggest that Leeds will have to pay over €30m (£25m) to sign Lang before the transfer window slams shut next week, Bielsa is ‘very interested’.
