Lionel Messi has given Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde a headache as he reportedly does not feel fit yet.
Messi is yet to feature this season having suffered a calf injury on the eve of the new campaign.
There had been hope that he would be fit and ready to return following the international break.
However it seems that may not be the case with the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund next week a doubt too.
Spanish outlet AS claim that Messi has bad feelings about his fitness and is keen not to rush back.
It’s reported that Valverde will not take any risks as he does not want the Argentine star to be out for a prolonged period.
Messi’s injury meant he was not part of the Argentina squad that beat Mexico 4-0 in a friendly overnight.
For Barcelona, Luis Suarez has also been sidelined with a calf injury though has been proving his fitness over the international break.
Without Messi and Suarez, Barca were beaten by Athletic Bilbao in the first game of the La Liga season.
The Catalan giants bounced back with a 5-2 win over Real Betis before being held to a 2-2 draw by Osasuna.
Antoine Griezmann shone in the win over Real Betis having moved to the Nou Camp from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
And his former Atletico team-mate Diego Costa has opened up on Griezmann’s transfer.
“He wanted to go there to see if he was able to be such an important player along with such good players and to achieve the same thing as Atletico,” the former Chelsea man said.
“It was his dream to play with Messi, Suarez. Everyone knows this player’s quality.”
