Lionel Messi has reportedly told Barcelona chiefs to complete the signing of Sergio Aguero, as it may be enough to convince him to sign a new contract. The Barca legend has just over two months remaining on his current deal, meaning he could be due to leave on a free transfer in a matter of weeks.
It’s a sickening proposition that could prove to be a defining moment in Barcelona’s modern history, meaning they will do everything within their power to keep him.
The appointment of Joan Laporta as the club’s new president is certainly a step in the right direction.
Messi was in favour of Laporta’s campaign and the 58-year-old has ambitious plans in the transfer market.
Laporta’s dream signing is Erling Haaland and he is willing to secure three low-cost signings – Gini Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia – to facilitate the deal.

However, now Manchester City have confirmed that Sergio Aguero will be leaving the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
It’s an opportunity likely to entice Barcelona, who are yet to replace Luis Suarez following his departure last summer.
According to Football Insider, a Spanish source has told them that Messi would be willing to stay at Barcelona if they sign Aguero.
He has even allegedly told the board that is the case, urging them to wrap up the deal.

Aguero has previously described his relationship with Messi as like “an old married couple”.
The attacking duo grew up playing for Argentina’s youth sides together, while Messi is also Aguero’s son Benjamin’s Godfather.
South American football expert Tim Vickery believes Messi could hold the key to Aguero’s next move, while a transfer to Barcelona is likely to hinge on their finances at the end of the season.
“There is an interesting little thing going on in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain perhaps, Barcelona perhaps,” Vickery told talkSPORT.
“The reason it’s both of those clubs has less to do with Aguero and more to do with Lionel Messi.
“Messi and Aguero are old mates. They roomed together all the way back in 2005 when Argentina won the Under-20 World Cup and they struck up a real relationship.
“They’ve been mates ever since. When they play for the national team you see that relationship and they are on a wavelength.
“I’ve always wanted to seem them together at club level and I think PSG reportedly being interested is a way of trying to get Messi. Barcelona being interested is a way of perhaps keeping Messi.
“It depends how much money you’re going to pay him. Are you really going to pay top dollar? Especially if you’re in the financial situation Barcelona are in.”
