Liverpool are interested in signing Houssem Aouar this summer, but completing a deal for the Lyon midfielder will not be straightforward, according to reports. Aouar is in high demand this summer and a move to the Premier League appears likely for the 23-year-old.
Aouar contributed seven goals and three assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon last season and caught the eye of several scouts.
The Frenchman has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and the Gunners are far from the only side interested in getting his signature.
Arsenal will be rivaled by Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool for Aouar this summer.
Liverpool are in need of a central midfielder this summer following Gini Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Wijnaldum was a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield for the past five years and will take some replacing for the Reds.

Liverpool have been linked to a whole host of midfielders over the past few months with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch, Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga, West Ham’s Declan Rice, Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus all mentioned in reports.
Aouar is the latest name to crop up, with ESPN reporting Liverpool have been following his progress for a while and could be tempted to make an offer.
He has two years remaining on his Lyon contract but the Ligue 1 club reportedly want to offload him this summer to ensure a decent transfer fee.
Arsenal are considered to still be in pole position, despite Lyon rejecting a £34million (€40m) bid from them last season.
The competition looks fierce for Liverpool and there is also another problem they would have to overcome in a potential move for Aouar.

Liverpool’s relationship with Lyon has been fractious since their failed bid to try to sign striker Nabil Fekir in 2018.
Back then Liverpool were searching for a player to fill the boots of Philippe Coutinho following his big-money move to Barcelona and appeared close to signing Fekir.
The Times reported at the time that a £48m deal had been done, but it never went through, despite Fekir undergoing a medical.
Reports later suggested a problem with his knee was discovered in the medical, but the playmaker rejected that in an interview with L’Equipe earlier this year.
“You want the truth? Even I don’t know, I promise you! I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me,” he said.
“At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee, but an excuse needed to be found.”
