Liverpool: Klopp makes Man Utd penalty claim after loss
An “angry” Jurgen Klopp was quick to blame his players following their shock 1-0 defeat at Southampton on Monday night, with the club suffering a setback in their bid to defend their Premier League title crown.
It was ex-Reds striker Danny Ings who put a dent in his former club’s title aspirations, as his early strike sealed a hard-fought win over the reigning champions.
There were less than two minutes on the clock when Ings lobbed goalkeeper Alisson to give Saints the lead, their first goal since December 16.
The Reds have struggled for form since their 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on December 19, with draws at home to West Brom and at Newcastle falling before this defeat in Hampshire.
Although the champions hold on to the Premier League top spot on goal difference, Klopp’s men failed to take the opportunity to go three points clear of rivals Manchester United, who now have a game in hand.

And the manager was quick to criticise his players, admitting he was left fuming over their out-of-sorts performance.
He said: “I know they are great guys and players but they were not good tonight.
“When I think they should do better, I get angry. Not for long but I do. We don’t have to make it bigger but it’s big… (it’s) all our fault. My fault but the boys had a hand too.
“It’s very frustrating because it’s so unnecessary.
“We gave the game away in the first few minutes and after that we were not calm enough to create the opportunities to turn it around.”
But Liverpool fans were quick to disagree with Klopp’s furious reaction, with some claiming the manager is the main problem.
One said: “Klopp is a part of the problem, he’s the best manager in the last decade, but even the best makes some mistakes.
“Jota’s injury? Selling Lovren without considering a reliable alternative? Not giving enough time to some players e.g. Shaqiri & Minamino, then you push them suddenly through some tough games.”
Another added: “I trust Klopp and every player completely.
“But I disagree with a few things like playing Jota on a dead game, or how little time Minamino has despite always playing like a lion when he is on, and maybe above all, the CB changes.”
A third fan said: Klopp is a genius. But the Henderson/Fabino CB combo was a Klopp flop in my honest opinion.”
Another even suggested that it’s time for Klopp to change his tactical style as Liverpool boss.
He said: “This one is probably on Klopp. It’s time for a change, we are the same for too long, he always change the team a lot.
“The 17/18 season is very different from 18/19, then 19/20 he dropped the rock ‘n roll to play a controlled game, and it’s clearly not working anymore.”
