Liverpool transfer raid on De Paul forces Leeds’ hand as ace makes decision

Liverpool have ramped up their efforts to sign Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul, who is also on Leeds United's radar.

The Reds are looking to retain their Premier League crown this season and sit top of the table.

However, they have seen their recent form drop off and they have not won a match in three outings.

It has allowed Manchester United the chance to leapfrog them if they gain just a point from their game in hand.

Liverpool have been ravaged by injuries, not just to their defence with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out, but further up the pitch.

They include summer signings Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his ranks this month to bring some momentum back to Anfield.

And it has led them to step up their interest in De Paul, who has been bright in Serie A this season, according to The Sun.

However, Leeds could pose a problem with the Whites desperate to sign the Argentine.

Marcelo Bielsa was close to landing his countryman in the last transfer window but a deal could not be pulled off in time.

With how the season is panning out, the Elland Road outfit were prepared to wait until the end of the season.

But they have been alerted by Liverpool's interest, meaning they could also hasten their transfer plans.

The Sun further reports that De Paul is keen on a move to the Premier League with Inter Milan also monitoring the 26-year-old.

The former Valencia star was looking to sign for Leeds in September but they refused to meet Udinese's £35m asking price.

But the Serie A outfit are set to increase their valuation with the added interest from Liverpool, The Sun state, to £40m.
