Liverpool kept their powder dry in the transfer window just gone, signing only Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig – and that could be because Jurgen Klopp is planning a raid for Jude Bellingham next summer.
Despite an impressive start to the new Premier League season, the Reds are still short in a number of key areas, most notably midfield, where Georginio Wijnaldum has not been replaced following his move to PSG.
It seems likely that Klopp will dip into the market at the end of the season to rectify that problem, and Daily Star Sport can exclusively reveal that Borussia Dortmund's teenage talent Bellingham is number one on the German's list of targets.
A deal for the former Birmingham City man won't come cheap, but Manchester United's signing of Jadon Sancho proves business can be done with the Bundesliga giants – if the price is right.
Sancho cost the Red Devils £73million, and it is expected a move for Bellingham would be around the same price, possibly nudging slightly above at £80million.
Reds captain Jordan Henderson played alongside the midfielder as England cruised to a 4-0 win over Andorra on Sunday, and after the match, the 31-year-old paid tribute to his younger team-mate.

"He is miles ahead of me when I was that age," Henderson admitted, doing little to dampen speculation linking Bellingham to Anfield.
"Even at such a young age he shows fantastic maturity on and off the field. You can see how hungry he is to be a top player and has all the attributes to do that.
"I was trying to help as much as I could but to be honest he is a top player who has shown that in the big games for Dortmund. I see him going from strength to strength all the time.
"I don't want to praise him too much and put too much pressure on him but he has a very good head on his shoulders, I'm told he has good people around him and a good family, and you can see that is an important part of him.
"I think he will be a top player going forward."
Liverpool fans will be hoping that Bellingham fulfils Henderson's top talent prediction on Merseyside, where he could potentially be a part of a star-studded line-up next season.
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson isn't going anywhere after signing a new long term contract, extending his stay with the 2019-20 Premier League champions until 2027.
He'll chaperone a back line that – injuries permitting – should feature usual suspects Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The influence of lynchpin Fabinho cannot be understated at the base of a midfield three which would undoubtedly include England team-mates Bellingham and Henderson.
In the forward areas, Liverpool are well-stocked, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Harvey Elliott all vying for places.
It would be no surprise to see Klopp add another out and out striker to the mix next summer, with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland both linked to Anfield.
For now, though, it's safer to suggest Mane, Salah and Jota will be the German's go to front three in a team that looks like genuine contenders at home and in Europe.
