Liverpool’s time capsule locked away until 2070 and fans all make same joke

Liverpool installed a steel time capsule at their new AXA Training Centre to mark the opening of their new home.

The Reds moved to the facility in Kirkby, after they left their previous home Melwood, after 70 years.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already all moved over to the new site, where they will be joined by players returning home from international duty.

To mark the occasion, the champions have placed a serious of items which relate to their illustrious history, in the steel capsule.

The hope is that it will teach future generations about what the club was like when they moved in 2020.

A number of items, including a pair of Jurgen Klopp’s glasses, Virgil van Dijk's boots and Alisson Becker’s gloves were placed in the capsule.

There is also a matchday programme from the day they were crowned champions in 2020, as well as squad photos of every club playing in the academy.

On social media, the club’s USA brand account asked supporters: “What will the squad look like when the time capsule is opened again?”

And while many were simply hoping they would be around to see it opened, the majority of fans made the same prediction.

“One thing is certain, James Milner will still be playing in that time,” one fan replied.

A second said: “Milner at LB, 100%”, while a third posted: “James Milner will still be providing cover at full-back”.

Another predicted: “James Milner and ten other guys..”. A fifth was slightly more reserved, replying: “James Milner will be the goal keeper because he can't run anymore”.

“Starting at right back, your 65 time pace test winner, James Milner”, a Liverpool fan concluded.

The 34-year-old has made a name for himself as one of the fittest players in Klopp’s squad, despite his advancing years.

The versatile midfielder regularly comes out on top of fitness tests, with teammates no longer surprised by his impressive exploits.

The former Man City star joked during the building of the new facility that a door should be named after him and the club duly obliged.

Engineers McLaughlin & Harvey installed ‘The James Milner Door’, which  provides access to the first-team suite.
