Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘ripped to shreds’ in howler vs Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold endured a nightmare first half in Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Reds right-back, who has been the subject of widespread debate after being controversially left out of Gareth Southgate's latest England squad, was run ragged by the likes of Vinicius Jr and Ferland Mendy in what proved a difficult opening 45 minutes for Jurgen Klopp's men.

Goals from Vinicius and Marco Asensio have given Real an early 2-0 lead in Madrid, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb.

And fans have taken to social media to point out how tough of an evening Alexander-Arnold is having at right-back.

One wrote on Twitter: "Trent being absolutely ripped to shreds. No mercy."

Another put: "Trent Alexander Arnold just got embarrassed by Ferland Mendy".

A third commented: "If I talk about what Madrid are doing to Trent right now, people will tell me I am exaggerating".

"Vinicius is cooking Trent down that wing," said another.

While one concluded: "And that’s exactly why Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t be going to the Euros."

Alexander-Arnold played a key part in Liverpool's recent Premier League and Champions League successes, but his form has plummeted in the 2020/21 campaign.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes he has fallen down the England pecking order as a result, suggesting that opposition players would be happy to line up against him.
