Manchester City have reportedly penciled in official talks with super-agent Mino Raiola in January over the signing of Erling Haaland. The Premier League champions are looking to gain an advantage over all other potential buyers before the striker’s £64million release clause kicks in next summer.

Chelsea were the first English club to register an interest in Haaland since he joined Borussia Dortmund when they held informal discussions with the Bundesliga club earlier this summer.

However, the Blues were told that Haaland would not be sold at any cost as they diverted their interest to Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku, snapping up the Belgian for a club-record fee of £97.5m.

Now City have set their sights on ‘The Terminator’ and his father Alf-Inge Haaland’s affiliation to the club could prove to be decisive when convincing him to move to the Etihad Stadium.

The 48-year-old played for City between 2000 and 2003 meaning he is already well connected in Manchester.

According to The Times, City are now due to sit down with Haaland’s agent Raiola at the turn of the year to discuss a potential deal.

Both Raiola and Haaland senior have already met with Barcelona and Real Madrid officials earlier this year with Los Blancos better positioned to rival City this summer.

Manchester United could also enter the fray though with Edinson Cavani expected to return to South America when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

News of City’s meeting with Raiola will be music to the ears of Tottenham, who worked tirelessly all summer to keep their star man Harry Kane.

Pep Guardiola was determined to land the England captain but Spurs owner Daniel Levy refused to budge.

Now it looks as though City have diverted their attentions to Haaland with Tottenham set to deny Kane his move and the chance to win major silverware.

Tottenham technical director Fabio Paratici is adamant Kane wants to stay in north London anyway…

“Harry Kane loves Tottenham. We’ve decided to keep Harry last summer to start the rebuilding, and we’re happy with our choice,” he recently said at the Festival dello Sport event.

“There’s no need for any new talks with Harry. He knows how to share the sense of belonging to Spurs.”

Borussia Dortmund refused to let Haaland leave Signal Iduna Park last summer after selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

The board made it clear that they did not feel it was necessary to sell their two star players in the same transfer window, raising concerns over the damaging implications that may follow.

Now Haaland is expected to be the man to depart this summer although Jude Bellingham is also of huge interest in the Premier League.
