Man Utd and Dortmund hit stumbling block in Sancho transfer negotiations

Manchester United have hit a stumbling block in their transfer negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over Jadon Sancho.

The England international is poised to become their first signing of the summer.

It follows their failed pursuit last year but the Red Devils are keen to avoid any similar mistakes this time round.

Liverpool have not made an offer for the player while Chelsea have always been at a distance, leaving United in the clear to land the 21-year-old.

Furthermore, Sancho looks set to sign for a much lower fee than the £109m quoted last summer – instead costing somewhere in the region of £80m to £85m.

Talks have gone relatively smoothly this time but there has been one hitch over payments once again, report the Mirror.

According to the report, Dortmund have told United to stump up the fee in one go – whereas Old Trafford officials would rather pay in instalments.

Whether this hiccup grows into something more detrimental to a deal remains to be seen but all parties remain cautiously optimistic as things stand that a transfer will go through.

The Bundesliga club have insisted that they have a gentlemen's agreement with Sancho that he can leave if their asking price is met.

However, it must be completed by a self-regulated deadline – one that United did not adhere to last season.

Furthermore, Sancho appears happy to leave Dortmund and return to England after four years away.

It has been another fantastic year for the Englishman in Germany despite a slow start but he ended the campaign with 16 goals and 20 assists.

The Mirror report that the Camberwell-born ace has agreed terms over personal terms that would see him stay at United until 2026.

It marks a signal of intent from the Red Devils, who were guilty of dallying last summer over transfers.

Solskjaer wants his business done early and after Sancho is secured they will move for a centre-back with Real Madrid star Raphael Varane the top target.
