Manchester United chiefs have grown ‘frustrated’ with constant transfer talk on social media.

Supporters have begged the club to secure the transfer of Jadon Sancho since the 2019/20 Premier League season came to an end, despite the good form that helped them secure Champions League qualification.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now issues a defiant statement over their business, which has so far only seen Donny van de Beek move to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £40m.

The Norwegian has stated that his side showed big signs of improvement in his first full season, and added that he understands that fans want to see the best United team possible.

He said: “Fans will always want the best possible team to watch, the best possible Man United team and that’s the passion we want and the history we have.

“We can look back 10 or 20 years and you look back at the great players we have and, for me, going forward, since Sir Alex left we’ve been averaging fifth.

“Last season we got third which was a big step forward, everyone saw development, Bruno coming in, Harry being captain and showing leadership skills, Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] did well.

“We want to take a step forward and we can go into the new season with confidence but we’re looking to give the group a boot and we’re working on it.”

Those comments come after ESPN reported that officials have grown increasingly frustrated at the constant social media ‘frenzy’ surrounding their lack of transfer activity, which they believe is creating a ‘cloud of negativity’.

They add that the club are very aware that fans are not pleased in their failure to sign Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid as well as the aforementioned Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

It is suggested that United held talks over Reguilon but they didn’t want to included a buy-back clause, and that Bale was only mentioned as an alternative to Sancho.

Ed Woodward had mentioned the constant speculation at the club to investors back in February, but named Fernandes as a reason that supporters might need to be more patient.

He said: "Despite being linked in the media to 111 players in January, our acquisition of just one of them, Bruno Fernandes, is an important step, demonstrating our commitment to adding experienced, world-class recruits to the exciting crop of academy graduates that are at the heart of this developing team.”

United take on Crystal Palace in their opening Premier League fixture on Saturday at Old Trafford, and it is likely that Netherlands international Van de Beek will make his debut.
