Man Utd coach Mike Phelan drops major Jadon Sancho transfer hint on social media

Manchester United No. 2 Mike Phelan has hinted that the Red Devils could be closing in on a deal for Jadon Sancho.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho all summer, though the Bundesliga side have been adamant it will take £108m to prise the Englishman away.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made just one signing this summer, bringing in Donny van de Beek from Ajax, though could now be close to doubling his tally.

United assistant Phelan has followed Sancho on Instagram amid the transfer speculation, potentially showing that a deal is near.

Sky Sports transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth has said that Sancho remains Manchester United's top transfer target.

"If you take what Borussia Dortmund are saying on face value – there is no deal. They set their own deadline and have said he's staying. That's the end, that's final," Sheth said.

"I don't think Man United feel that it is final. They are still negotiating with Sancho's representatives about personal terms and agent fees.

"Once they have done that, they will go to Dortmund with a bid and hopefully see him agitate for a move to United.

"As far as Man United are concerned, he remains the No 1 target – they do want to bring Jadon Sancho to the club – I don't think that it is completely dead."

United reportedly see Dortmund’s valuation of Sancho as ‘unrealistic’ with the Red Devils unwilling to break their wage structure for Sancho.

Though Rio Ferdinand wants his old club to seal a deal, saying: "He is fantastic. If he does come he'll be an added value in terms of quality no doubt.

"Manchester United need top players who are going to have an effect on their first XI and I think Jadon Sancho falls into that category.

"If you look at successful Manchester United sides over the years, successful periods, there were players fighting for every position and if you substitute one out and you brought one in there was no change in the quality or the output."
