Man Utd could use Alex Telles in swap deal for Sporting Lisbon wonderkid

Man United could use Alex Telles in a swap deal for Sporting Lisbon wonderkid Nuno Mendes this summer, according to reports.

Telles only joined United in 2020 but has found his opportunities limited by the good form of Luke Shaw.

The 28-year-old, who signed for £15.4million from Porto, has made just seven Premier League appearances so far this term.

With his pathway to regular first-team football blocked, Telles could be forgiven for contemplating a move away from Old Trafford.

Even if he's not, United seem prepared to bid the Brazilian goodbye in order to get their hands on a new Portuguese wonderkid.

According to Portuguese website Record, Telles is being offered to Sporting Lisbon as a 'bargaining' chip for Nuno Mendes.

Telles is being touted by a representative – the same one who was involved in the deal to bring Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford.

Sporting have reportedly said yes to the inclusion of Telles in a deal, but there remain significant stumbling blocks to be overcome.

Mendes has a €70million release clause in his contract, although Telles' inclusion should bring that down to €40million – providing Mendes is allowed to return to Sporting on loan.

Wages could also be an issue for the Portuguese side, with Telles reportedly earning around €4million per season at Old Trafford – a figure which is beyond Sporting's budget.

United do have another trick up their sleeve in their attempt to land Mendes, with fellow countryman Fernandes reported to have a good relationship with the 18-year-old.

Mendes has made 22 appearance for Sporting in all competitions this season and earned his first three caps for Portugal during the most recent international break.
