Manchester United are cautious about going back in for Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window as they get ready to pitch to his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils are eager to bring Haaland to Old Trafford but face stiff competition from Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The two Spanish clubs held talks with the player’s agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge Haaland on Thursday while the duo will jet to England in the coming weeks to talk to United and their Premier League rivals.

A deal to sign the striker, who has scored 49 goals in as many appearances for Dortmund since joining in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg, will cost at least £127million (€150m) it is thought.

And that may impact United’s ability to strengthen in other areas of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad should they manage to convince Haaland that Manchester is his best landing spot.

Ed Woodward and co. also want to strengthen at centre-back and have long harboured ambitions to sign a right-sided forward, with Dortmund’s Sancho a massive target last summer.

United refuse to meet the Bundesliga club’s asking price, which stood at around £108m, for the England international.

But they retain interest in the 21-year-old attacker, who has supplied 12 goals and 16 assists in 31 games this term to go with 20 goals and 20 assists in 44 matches last season.

Yet Eurosport say while Sancho is eager to return to the Premier League next season, United are reluctant to get their hopes up too much over a potential deal following last summer’s saga.

Instead, they will wait to learn how much Dortmund are demanding for the ex-Man City trainee before considering a fresh pursuit, because they will not go anywhere close to £100m for him.

Eurosport say United would pay around £50m to £60m because they feel that is more representative of his worth and expect to soon find out how much the German giants want.

Man Utd: What could tempt Haaland to Old Trafford?

United were left bitterly disappointed that they could not add Sancho to their attack last year but do not regret refusing to give in to the demands of Dortmund and the player’s representatives.

Dortmund risk losing both Sancho and Haaland this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

And the report adds they will look to price potential suitors out of buying Haaland this summer until 2022, when a release clause in his contract worth around £64m kicks in.

Though that would see the Yellow Blacks miss out on more money, they will hope having the extremely-talented 20-year-old for an extra year can help fire them to trophies.

Romano confirmed on Thursday that after meetings with Real Madrid and Barca, Haaland’s people will sit down with United and their fellow English clubs in the coming weeks.

If the Norway frontman moves elsewhere or if Dortmund refuse to let him go, United may opt to soften the blow by moving for Sancho.

Mason Greenwood and Daniel James have been the most used players on the right-hand side this season while Marcus Rashford can also play there.

But Sancho would provide a significant upgrade in the position given his sensational output in Germany, and handily enough he can also play on the left or as a No 10 too.

Ideally United would love to sign both Haaland and Sancho but that is highly unlikely given it would presumably cost over £200m for the pair.
