Fans of Manchester United have been left baffled as a verified account on twitter appeared to 'confirm' the signing of Raphael Varane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no illusions that he is in the market for a centre-back after neither Victor Lindelof nor Eric Bailly were able to prove themselves to the United boss.
Varane is entering the last year of his contract and so this summer provides the last opportunity for Real Madrid to make a huge profit on the man they signed from Lens for £9million a decade ago.
Now, an account alleging to be that of United goalkeeper Lee Grant tweeted an 'official' announcement that Man Utd had agreed a deal to sign the French international but this appears to be fake.
Posing as Manchester United on twitter, the verified account had even mocked up a transfer graphic with Varane in the new adidas home kit which was unveiled on Thurday morning.
The handle '@lee grant_13' has since gone private but beforehand had changed it's name to 'Manchester United' with an image of the badge to resemble the official account.
Despite being verified on Twitter, it must be said that it's doubtful this is the actual Man Utd goalkeeper Lee Grant.

This 'official' announcement of Raphael Varane was quickly taken down with the user going private leaving fans baffled as to whether it was confirmation of a new centre-back or a hoax:
"Was @leeGrant_13 account hacked??? What's that Varane tweet about???" asked one fan.
"YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! VARANE IS RED," celebrated another.
While one eagle-eyed fan spotted a spelling error in the graphic casting further doubt that the signing was official:
"RapHEAL Varane Get the name correct at least," was the reply.
