Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand has reiterated his belief that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be sacked by the club. United have suffered a dismal run of form in recent months and were nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea at the start of Saturday.

Ferdinand took to his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel during the international break to call for Solskjaer’s head.

And, on Saturday, the former defender told BT Sport viewers there needs to be a change at the top if United want to see an improvement on the pitch.

“We’re all quick to talk about players and say that they should be out the window,” Ferdinand said ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Leicester City.

“’He should never wear the shirt again,’ I hear loads of people say. It’s got to be the same for managers.

“I’m not sitting here enjoying saying a manager should lose his job. I’m saying things aren’t going well so maybe there needs to be a change if you want to improve things.

“I think that’s an honest assessment of it. That’s what I’m paid to do – give an assessment whether it’s friends, former team-mates or people I don’t know.

“Treat them all the same. Everyone deals with situations differently and you’ve got to respect that.

“I respect that other people have different ways of doing things in their opinions and their approach to things is different.

“That’s life – in all walks of life it’s the same. I see it the way I see it and I’m very comfortable and confident in saying what I have to say.”

Man Utd began the weekend in sixth position in the Premier League table after picking up just four points out of the last available 18.

That run has seen the Red Devils win just one game in six, while Aston Villa, Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City have all inflicted defeats on the side.

But United will be looking to reverse their fortunes and make a statement when they travel to Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Watford have endured their own problems this season and are lingering just one place above the relegation zone.

And manager Solskjaer admits he wants to see an improvement from his team.

“This week we’ve prioritised a few things we have to improve on,” said the Norwegian. “Form and performances haven’t been good enough.

“We can do better, should do better and it’s down to performances on the day. We’ve got to focus on getting the start right.”
