Manchester United are ready to give Erik ten Hag a new contract regardless of any likely takeover, according to reports. The Dutchman was hired by the Glazers back in the summer, arriving as a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And he’s transformed the club in the short time since, guiding them to Carabao Cup glory while also making them a force to be reckoned with once again.
The Glazers confirmed back in November they were open to selling United and, at the current time of writing, both Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe appear to be frontrunners.
And The Mirror say both parties are ‘on the same page’ when it comes to Ten Hag and his future.
The report says United are hoping to give the Dutchman a new contract to recognise the rapid progress they’ve made under the 53-year-old so far this season.
The Red Devils have told the former Ajax boss they want to reward him, with Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim believing he’s the man capable of bringing the glory day back.
Ten Hag confirmed he met with Ratcliffe on Friday, saying: “I just met them, we shake hands, I’m focused on the game.
Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players
“We play a big game on Sunday, all our focus is on that, others in the club are dealing with potential investors.”
Back in the summer, Ten Hag signed a three-year deal worth £27million, with the option of a further 12 months,
RB Leipzig, who saw their hopes of Champions League glory ended by Manchester City on Tuesday night following a 7-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, were apparently ready to give the Dutchman more.
Yet while Ten Hag was happy with the Leipzig project, he was ‘compelled’ to move to United instead.
Few gave the club a chance of a successful campaign this term, particularly after last season’s shambles under Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Ten Hag’s time in the dugout started badly, with United falling to early losses against Brighton and Brentford.
But, a recent blip against Liverpool aside, the Red Devils have been consistent in the time since.
They won the Carabao Cup last month, beating Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.
And United also remain in contention for Europa League and FA Cup glory, too, having made the quarter-finals of both competitions.
Speaking recently, meanwhile, former United captain Bryan Robson praised Ten Hag for the work he’s done at the club.

“He’s brought in the discipline back into United, the way they’ve got to train, he knows exactly what he wants on the pitch so he sets the players out so that they know the direction they’ve got to go in,” he said.
“That doesn’t mean he takes away the flare of the players, but he makes them disciplined and the work rate has got to be there.
“That shows even in training even on pre-season when I was in Australia with them.
“I watched training every day and the discipline was there to be seen and the players knew that that is back within the group of players.
“Then a couple of the lads were late for a meeting and for me he laid the rules there.
“So they were late for a meeting, and he went ‘well, if you’re not disciplined enough to turn up for a meeting on time, you’re not playing’, and put them on the bench.
“It’s just things like that which you install as a manager where players know the boundaries, and all of a sudden you get more of the discipline on the pitch.”
United are next in action against Fulham on Sunday (4.30pm).
