Man Utd target Erling Haaland wins Golden Boy award amid "dream" transfer talk

Erling Haaland has added the 2020 Golden Boy award to his already-glittering CV to further increase his stock amid talk of a transfer to the Premier League.

Haaland, 20, was presented the prestigious prize by Italian newspaper Tuttosport to recognise him as the best player aged 21 or under in Europe's top leagues.

The Norwegian has lit up the continent since joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg for £17.1million in January, scoring 16 goals in 18 games for the Bundesliga giants last season.

Haaland has also started this campaign in blistering form with 10 goals in 10 games on his way to succeeding 2019 winner Joao Felix as Golden Boy.

He fended off interest from 19 other nominees to win the award, including Borussia Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies and Barcelona winger Ansu Fati.

Haaland adds the prize to his host of individual honours which includes 2019 Austrian Footballer of the Year, 2019 U20 World Cup Golden Boot and a Bundesliga Player of the Month award.

Previous winners of the Golden Boy award include Sergio Aguero in 2007 and Paul Pogba in 2013, both of whom went on to complete lucrative moves to the Premier League in the seasons after winning the prize.

And Haaland's triumph comes at a time when he is already one of the most sought-after stars in Europe, with Real Madrid and Manchester United believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Last year, he admitted he "dreamed" of playing for a European giant and said he "especially likes English football".

And Haaland's father, Alf-Inge reaffirmed his desire to play in the Premier League earlier this week.

"I think most players dream of being in the Premier League at one time or another, Alf-Inge Haaland told Sport1 .

"It's the league that gets the most attention around, and it has very good quality teams. There is no doubt the Premier League is attractive to him.”
