Manchester United have won the race for highly-rated Atletico Madrid teenager Alejandro Garnacho, beating Real Madrid to the youngster’s signature this summer.
Garnacho, 16, is a product of Atletico’s academy and has recently been plying his trade for the club’s Under-19 side.
The young striker has been attracting plenty of interest in European football, with United and Madrid setting their sights on a summer move.
It is believed Borussia Dortmund were also keen to sign him, but Spanish outlet Marca claim Garnacho is on his way to Old Trafford.
He will put pen to paper on a five-year deal with United, who are adding a number of talented young players to their ranks this summer.
As well as Garnacho, the Red Devils have also signed Alvaro Fernandes from Madrid and Marc Jurado from Barcelona.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has advocated the use of youngsters since taking the United helm, blooding the likes of Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Timothy Fosu-Mensah into his first-team squad.
Garnacho’s idol is said to be Cristiano Ronaldo, meaning a move to United was all the more appealing for him.
Madrid, another of Ronaldo’s former clubs, had also made a beeline for the player, yet their frosty relationship with Atletico was always going to complicate negotiations.
Garnacho is described by Marca as one of the “jewels” of Atletico’s academy ranks, which indicates they have pulled off a major coup by beating Los Blancos to his signature.
Solskjaer is not only bolstering his squad with youngsters this summer, nonetheless.
Last week United completed the £40million signing of Donny van de Beek, who left Ajax behind to join the Red Devils.
Reports suggest the Premier League outfit are also considering a move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon, who has been put up for sale at the Bernabeu.

And United are understood to be in talks with Madrid over a potential deal for the £27m-rated left-back, which Solskjaer will want to finalise as soon as possible with their opening Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace in store next Saturday.
