Man Utd transfer roundup: Sancho next step as list of alternatives drawn up

The signing of Donny van de Beek was met with excitement by Manchester United supporters, but it’s important the club continue in their pursuit of further targets.

And the man the club’s fans truly want to see clad in red this summer is Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund winger left the blue half of Manchester to forge a professional career, and the thought of him moving to Old Trafford would be a huge statement signing from the club.

That doesn’t mean Sancho is the only player on United’s radar, and with that in mind here are the latest transfer rumours.

United to make Sancho club’s third-highest earner

Jadon Sancho will become the third-highest earner at Manchester United if he joins the club this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The England international has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, and the transfer moved a step closer this week after the club and Sancho reached an agreement on wages and agent fees.

The next and most important step is to negotiate with Borussia Dortmund. The German side have held strong in their £108m valuation of the winger, and are unlikely to drop those demands any time soon.

Smalling misses training ahead of Roma transfer

Chris Smalling has not trained with Manchester United over the past two days as he closes in on a move to Roma.

The former Fulham defender spent last season on loan in the Italian capital and was keen to make the move permanent.

The Italian club initially struggled to meet United’s asking price, but according to the Daily Telegraph, the two sides have reached an agreement which will total between £15m and £20m.

That meant Smalling was absent from United training on Tuesday and Wednesday as he nears a permanent move to the Eternal City.

Sancho is not the only winger Manchester United are considering this summer.

The MEN and others report that the Red Devils have drawn up a list of alternative targets should they be unable to agree a fee for Sancho with Dortmund this summer.

Burnley's Dwight McNeil and Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman are two of the wingers who have been linked with United recently, while the club are believed to retain an interest in Jack Grealish, who has played out wide for Aston Villa.
