Man Utd’s De Jong setback, Cavani makes demand, Kamara set for free transfer

While Manchester United appear to be serious about a long-term plan after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, what happens in the short-term at Old Trafford will be fascinating too.

The current campaign has fallen well short of expectations and a title challenge already appears to be beyond the Red Devils.

However, the current squad still possesses quality enough to compete for the top four, as well as in the Champions League and FA Cup.

The January window could be fascinating with that in mind, as the Red Devils try to be competitive right now and build an exciting future too.

Daily Star Sport has all of your latest United transfer stories.

Manchester 'bad weather' will stop De Jong move

The father of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has said Manchester United and Bayern Munich are unlikely transfer destinations for his son.

With Barcelona in a desperate financial plight, De Jong has been linked with a move away, as he is arguably the club's most valuable playing asset. The former Ajax man is one of the most gifted playmakers in world football at his best.

Speaking to Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad (h/t Metro), John de Jong commented on the prospect of a move to Manchester or Munich.

"It’s often bad weather there," he said. "Of course it’s about football, but it does matter.

"Of course I know that Barcelona needs money and a great offer for Frenkie could help, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Although, the five top European clubs have all called."

Cavani makes Corinthians demand

According to Globo Esporte (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani would demand a three-year deal to join Corinthians.

The Uruguay international was linked with the Brazilian giants over the weekend and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, a January move could be on the cards for the 34-year-old.

However, Cavani's request for a long-term deal is said to have not been well received by Corinthians, as the striker turns 35 years old in February.

The former Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain striker has also been linked with Barcelona as of late.

Kamara on United's radar

According to The Athletic (h/t 101 Great Goals), Marseille's Boubacar Kamara will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign and United are one of the teams interested in signing him.

The 22-year-old's contract at the Stade Velodrome will expire in the summer and having impressed at the base of the Marseille midfield in recent years, there will likely be a lot of clubs keen to pick him up on a free transfer.

United are short of a high-class holding midfielder and Kamara would potentially plug a big gap in the squad if he was to move to Old Trafford.

The French youth international can also play at centre-back if needed, meaning he could be a valuable option to have around.
