Man Utd’s stance on Dayot Upamecano after Old Trafford loss with Leipzig

Manchester United reportedly remain keen on a transfer for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano despite the Bundesliga outfit’s Champions League defeat to the Red Devils.

Leipzig were thrashed 5-0 at Old Trafford recently with Marcus Rashford coming off the bench to score a hat-trick.

Upamecano was a part of the visitors back-line that night having often been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Even with that humiliating defeat, the Manchester Evening News claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United chiefs remain keen on the Senegalese star.

Solskjaer is believed to be keen to strengthen his defensive options with Alex Telles having been signed from Porto in the summer.

The MEN add that United could also attempt to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, with he having also been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Solskjaer had previously insisted United have good enough centre-backs in their squad.

Following the Premier League clash with Brighton earlier in the season, the boss said: “We’ve got many defenders here and I put Eric [Bailly] on to bolster the defence, following the runs of [Leandro] Trossard and [Neal] Maupay.

“For me, we’ve got enough good centre-backs here at the moment.’

“When you concede chances and concede goals, there are two different things you can look at – it’s either the team shape, or are there any individual mistakes.

“We’re not in our best shape of form, our shape isn’t there, we’re not sharp enough to stop crosses or follow the runs.

“We’re a little bit behind, that’s more structural mistakes than individual mistakes. I thought Victor [Lindelof] did well today.”
