Manchester United transfer news LIVE: Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon and Jadon Sancho plus Premier League updates

Donny van de Beek has already arrived in a £40m deal from Ajax to the delight of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer while Dean Henderson will compete with David De Gea back from his brilliant loan at Sheffield United, so United are stronger ahead of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Sancho remains the club’s No 1 target with an agreement reached over personal terms and agents’ fees. Now they must agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund holding out for £120m. Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale has emerged as a surprise second-choice while Thiago Alcantara of Bayern Munich is another option apparently being considered. Reinforcements at the back in the shape of left-back Sergio Reguilon are also being mooted. We’ll have all the latest throughout the day:

Here are the latest rumours, news, updates surrounding Old Trafford, with plenty of business left to accomplish and ensure Solskjaer has the tools to build on last season’s third place and a Europa League semi-final.

Sergio Romero, Manchester United’s No. 2 goalkeeper, is facing stiff competition this season as Dean Henderson is back at the club hoping to challenge David De Gea as United’s top goalkeeper.

It is not a stretch to say that Romero could drop to third choice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this year but the door has been opened for the Argentine to return to his home country.

El Intransigente report that Racing Club president Victor Blanco is open to the idea of Romero re-joining the club where he started his career.

Blanco said: “A player who comes from European football doesn’t come to make an economic difference and always has the doors open, as is the case with Sergio

“You have to come for the shirt, for the feeling of belonging and for wanting to give something back to the club that saw you grow up.”

Former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, has urged Manchester United to focus on their defence when looking at signings this summer, telling them to go after Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. He told Premier League productions:

We saw with the one signing in [Bruno] Fernandes that it all changed for Manchester United.

“But for me in the defensive point of view they’re still very weak. We’re hearing [Man] City might get Koulibaly but they’ve [United] got to be going in there trying to do that, they’ve got to be trying to do that deal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a fantastic defender but [Victor] Lindelof and [Harry] Maguire and the left side [Luke Shaw] – those three are there for the taking.

If you’re to challenge those teams [Liverpool & Manchester City] they’ve got to be a lot stronger. It’s not strong enough for me at the moment.

They’ve got Fernandes, they’ve got Pogba. Man United need to do what Liverpool did – address the problems and then go from there.”

ESPN have outlined the supposed wage demands for Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara.

According to their report Thiago is demanding in excess of £200,000-a-week with Liverpool and Manchester United keen on signing the Bayern Munich midfielder.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Bayern in 2021 and has rejected a new deal from the Bundesliga champions. Liverpool would have to sell in order to pursue Thiago with Georginio Wijnaldum the player most likely to leave as he is out of contract next summer as well.

Wijnaldum doesn’t want to leave Anfield though so Liverpool’s negotiations with Bayern are stalling.

Manchester United could sweep in for Thiago but only if he is prepared to accept less per week.

Bayern may have to significantly lower their asking price to do a deal and avoid losing Thiago for nothing next summer.

The Sun are reporting that Manchester United are considering a £28m move for Valencia star Uros Racic.

Valencia are struggling financially and United believe they would be open to offers for the 22-year-old dubbed ‘the new Nemanja Matic’.

Last season Racic had loan spells at Famalicao in Portugal and Spanish club CD Tenerife.

According to The Sun, West Ham United are prepared to pay £5m to bring Arsenal defender Rob Holding to the London Stadium on loan.

Hammers manager, David Moyes, had set his sights on signing centre-back James Tarkowski but is changing tact after having two bids rejected by Burnley.

David Sullivan is allegedly willing to pay £5million to take him on loan, and West Ham would even hope to land a permanent deal next summer.

Earlier in the window Newcastle United had hoped to take Holding on loan, but Arsenal would not let him go as they face injuries to their other defenders.

Holding started in Saturday’s 3-0 win away at Fulham and Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports that the 24-year-old defender wasn’t going anywhere.

Rennes desperately tried to include a move for Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud in the deal for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy according to French reports.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 side demanded a £37m fee for Mendy along with an option of signing the 33-year-old Giroud on loan or no a free transfer.

It appears the Blues rejected the offer and came to an agreement with Rennes for the 28-year-old goalkeeper in the region of £28m whose contract with the French club runs until 2023.

Chelsea conceded 54 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and although manager Frank Lampard says he is happy with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mendy’s signing would help eradicate such a poor record.

Liverpool are in the running to sign Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, report Samp News 24

The player has a £10.8 million release clause, representing a real bargain for the Reds and others.

Lucas Torreira’s move away from the Emirates is looking increasingly likely with Torino wanting to sign the midfielder on loan this season with the option of a permenant move for 2021-22.

The sale would bring in £22m, paid in two equal installments, to the Gunners with Fiorentina also interested in the 24-year-old.

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster is reportedly set to move away from Anfield with Sheffield United the most likely destination.

Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the 20-year-old but the Blades are confident of securing Brewster after talks with Liverpool progressed over the weekend, according to the Star.

Brewster impressed at Swansea last season with 11 goals in 22 appearances and it is not out of the question that a loan deal with Sheffield United could be made.

Manchester United are ‘very close’ to signing Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid, according to Spanish reports.

El Español claims there is just one detail to be ironed out in a possible €25million move, with United unwilling to allow Madrid a buyback clause.
