Mesut Özil has finally completed his move from Arsenal to Fenerbahce.
The German star has joined the Turkish giants on a three-and-a-half year contract after agreeing a deal to terminate his Arsenal contract early.
He has already arrived in Istanbul and is ready to begin the next chapter of his career in the coming days.
But the No.10 – synonymous with Ozil – will not be worn by the playmaker for the time being.
Striker Mbwanna Samatta, on loan from Aston Villa, currently occupies the Fenerbahce No.10 shirt until the end of the season.
That means Ozil has to wear another number until the end of the campaign – and it is widely reported he will break with tradition by wearing the No.67.
Last week, he appeared to confirm that would be his shirt number by tweeting the unorthodox number along with a love heart.
And Ozil has a unique reason for the decision as his hometown of Zonguldak in Turkey has a postal code beginning with 67.
It is expected he will be given the No.10 shirt next season once it becomes available again, especially given the strength of his growing M10 brand.
Speaking after completing his Arsenal exit, Ozil said: “I’d like to thank the club for this amazing journey over the past seven-and-a-half years.
“The support I have felt from the team and fans during my time here has been truly incredible and something I will always be grateful for.
“Together we won trophies for the first time in years and created memories that will last a lifetime. The Arsenal fans will forever remain in my heart.
“I’d like to thank Edu Gaspar for helping bring about a professional and dignified solution in the past few days, and I wish everyone at the club the best in their attempt to continue to bring Arsenal back to the top, where we belong.”
