Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing former Premier League flop Moise Kean, who joined Juventus from Everton on a two-year loan deal last summer. But the Magpies could have to sacrifice blockbuster star Allan Saint-Maximin to get the deal over the line.

Kean joined Everton from Juventus in 2019 when he was still 19 years old. But the striker failed to light up the Premier League and struggled to hold down a regular starting place at Goodison Park. And after finding the back of the net just four times in 39 appearances for the Toffees, the Italy international was shipped off back to his former club.

Juventus have an obligation to buy Kean at the end of his loan for £24million plus a potential £2.5m in add-ons. But the player is now attracting attention from the Premier League after a run of fine form.

According to Juve Dipendenza, Juventus are really afraid of losing Kean but are increasingly willing to find a meeting point with Newcastle. And Magpies ace Saint-Maximin would be welcome at Allianz Stadium if Juventus can persuade the Premier League side to sanction his move to Italy as part of the deal for Kean.

Kean proved to be the matchwinner earlier this month when he scored the only goal of the game during Juventus’ Serie A victory over Verona. And he bagged a brace three days later as his club saw off Lazio. But he has only started six of Juve’s 15 league encounters this term amid huge competition for places.

Kean, who is now 22, is looking forward to redeeming himself in England following his miserable spell with Everton. So he could now opt for a move to St James’ Park.

If Juventus do exchange Kean for Saint-Maximin, they will also need to hand Newcastle a transfer fee. Saint-Maximin is regarded as one of the Magpies’ best players and has terrorised opposition defences since moving to England from Nice in the summer of 2019.

The French winger, who has never won a cap for his country despite his remarkable form in recent years, is contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2026. But he has suffered with injury issues this season and hasn’t started a Premier League game since August amid an upturn in fortunes for the north east giants.

Newcastle were struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table last winter. But following their takeover by a Saudi-led consortium, they have become one of the strongest sides in the Premier League. And Eddie Howe’s team are now third in the table after losing just once since the current campaign got underway.
