Newcastle set sights on four attacking targets as part of mega-money overhaul

Newcastle United have set their sights on four attacking targets this January transfer window as part of their plans for a mega-money squad overhaul.

The first signing of the club's new era was completed on Friday morning as Kieran Trippier arrived from Atletico Madrid for £12million, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Magpies.

However, the spending at St. James' Park seems far from over with Newcastle expected to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs this January.

With top scorer Callum Wilson sidelined with a calf injury, attention is now set to turn to the attacking department as the club looks to sign cover up front.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle have identified four attacking transfer targets that they are looking into signing this month.

Liverpool's Divock Origi is amongst those four and is understood to be allowed to leave Anfield for just £7million with his contract expiring in the summer.

Origi is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs as well as several in Italy, with his wages the only potential road block for a move.

This is unlikely to affect Newcastle, though, with the takeover of the club in October making them the world's richest club.

Dominic Solanke is also a reported target, having been signed for Bournemouth by Eddie Howe back in 2019 and a reunion could be on the cards.

Solanke has scored 19 goals in the Championship this season but the Cherries are reluctant to sell him mid-season as they chase promotion.

Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell is sought after by several Premier League club, with Newcastle among them, as his time at Carrow Road appears to be coming to an end.

Cantwell has just 18 months remaining on his contract and has informed the club he has no intention of signing a new deal before next summer.

Having only started five matches this season and played 90 minutes just twice, Cantwell is available for transfer and would reportedly cost between £15million and £20million.

The final player on Newcastle's four-man attacking shortlist is Arsenal's 22-year-old striker Eddie Nketiah, who is out of contract in the summer.

He has yet to agree a new deal with the club and a January departure seems likely, with Crystal Palace also believed to be interested in his services.
