Martin Odegaard has issued a heartfelt farewell to his “Arsenal family” after he returned to Real Madrid following his loan spell with the Gunners.
The Norwegian is set to stay in the Spanish capital as he hopes to resurrect his career with Los Blancos after seeing Carlo Ancelotti replace Zinedine Zidane.
The Gunners had been keen to bring Odegaard back to the Premier League on a permanent basis, after an impressive loan spell over the second half of last season.
Odegaard became a regular in Mikel Arteta’s midfield, making 20 appearances in all competitions during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
But with Zidane, a manager who was reluctant to play him, now having left the Bernabeu, Odegaard is hoping to impress Ancelotti and stake a claim in Madrid’s team.
The 22-year-old confirmed his decision to stay in La Liga with a heartfelt farewell on post on Instagram, which he included a picture of himself in Arsenal kit.
“Arsenal, thank you so much for these six months. My time with the Arsenal family will always hold a special place in my heart,” Odegaard wrote in the caption.
Who should Arsenal sign to replace Martin Odegaard? Comment below.
“I wanna thank everyone in and around the club for the way you made me feel like a part of the family since the first day.
“Special thanks to the fans, even without you guys at the stadium for the majority of the season, I felt you with me at all times.
“A huge thank you to the boss and his staff for everything I’ve learned during my stay. Thank you also to all my teammates for such a great time on and off the pitch. Will miss you all.
