Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Chris Wilder had to be separated on the touchline during Manchester United’s 3-2 win away at Sheffield United on Thursday night.

United came from behind to claim victory at Bramall Lane, having fallen a goal behind when Dean Henderson’s early mistake allowed David McGoldrick to tap the ball into an empty net.

Marcus Rashford soon brought the visitors level, nevertheless, before Anthony Martial pounced in the box to move them ahead.

Rashford then added his second of the game six minutes into the second half, but United were made to hang on to the win when McGoldrick secured his own brace three minutes from time.

And before the full-time whistle came in Sheffield, Solskjaer and Wilder were involved in a heated exchange on the touchline and had to be separated by officials.

The United boss took exception with a late tackle on Rashford in the game, but he admits his reaction was a little “overboard” in hindsight.

When asked about his altercation with Wilder, Solskjaer said in his post-match interview with Amazon Prime: “I don’t mind a fair tackle, but when it’s a second after the tackle was made, and there were a couple right in front of me so…

“It’s one of those games that these boys will learn from. It’s a proper game and how football should be.

“I apologise, I maybe went overboard with my words. But we’ll have a drink after me and Chris."
