Manchester United's competition for places is helping Paul Pogba according to former Red Devil Luke Chadwick.
The Frenchman has put in a string of impressive performances for United as they continue their charge up the table.
Pogba looks set to leave Old Trafford in the summer after his agent again tipped the midfielder for an exit.
But for now the 27-year-old remains an important piece of the jigsaw under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The World Cup winner hasn't consistently delivered in Manchester having been signed in 2016 with plenty of expectation.
Bruno Fernandes has come in and hit the ground running in the way many hoped Pogba would have.
But Chadwick reckons that may have helped the Frenchman who has had to push for other roles in the team having accepted that the Portuguese star will be the chief playmaker.
He told CaughtOffside : “Pogba’s done really well in the last few games, particularly the Aston Villa game.
“He’ll probably be annoyed at himself that he didn’t take a few chances in the box, but I think all the club’s top players are benefitting from more competition in the team.
“Pogba’s obviously realised that that number 10 position is no longer really his because Bruno Fernandes is going to start every game when he’s fit.
"Fred and [Scott] McTominay have done well in those holding roles, [Nemanja] Matic is having a good influence as well.
“Pogba’s definitely put more of a shift in and I think that competition for places is bringing out the best in players, with that central midfield full of players pushing each other to get the best out of each other."
Pogba has contributed to five goals this season – scoring two of them himself.
He has long had Solskjaer's backing and the Norwegian continues to turn to the midfielder despite his seemingly imminent departure.
