Man Utd: Solskjaer delighted to kick off 2021 with win
Manchester United need more from Anthony Martial if they are to win the Premier League title this season, according to Red Devils legend Phil Neville. Martial scored just his second Premier League goal of the campaign in Friday’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. United are level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table 16 matches into the season.
The form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has strengthened views that United can end their eight-year wait for a top-flight title.
Bruno Fernandes is United’s leading scorer in the league with 11 goals, with Marcus Rashford second on seven.
But Neville believes Martial has to provide more to give United the best chance of pushing for top spot come the end of the campaign.
“I was actually surprised by that stat [of Martial’s goal record this season], I didn’t know that stat before it was said in the interview there,” Neville told Premier League Productions.

“He’s someone that needs to score more goals, needs to score 10-15 goals a season, I think he needs to be up to that mark for United to have a chance of winning the league.
“He can’t just rely on a Rashford or a Fernandes to score the goals.
“He needs to be hitting those types of figures. I’d like to see him be more ruthless.”
Martial opened the scoring with a smart header against Villa and Neville is hopeful the goal can trigger a run of form from the 25-year-old.

Neville added: “This was a really good finish, it was a good ball from Wan-Bissaka, but the guide of the header was really good and hopefully now he can get a run of games, a run of form, a run of rhythm.
“He looks fitter and I want to see him go on a run now of scoring goals.”
Solskjaer insists Martial is improving after lacking confidence earlier in the season.
Asked how Martial can score more goals, Solskjaer said: “Well, keep playing as he did today.
“Get on the ball, link with the players, and be in between the posts.
“He’s had chances all season and maybe his confidence has had a knock a little bit earlier with the sending off and some niggles he’s had, but now he is firing and getting better and better.”
