Sheikh Jassim’s Qatari group have toured Manchester United on Thursday and underwent talks regarding a potential takeover of the club from the Glazer family. Both the Qatar delegation and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been invited to Manchester to visit both Old Trafford and the Carrington training ground complex, and though Jassim was not present in person he has sent a strong contingent.

The Qatari group in Manchester is led by Shazhad Shabaz, president of Nine Two Foundation, who visited a day ahead of Ratcliffe’s group though the INEOS CEO is set to personally be among those in attendance on Friday.

Jassim’s group first travelled to Old Trafford to take in the stadium facilities before then turning up at Carrington, two sites that could see dramatic regeneration following Cristiano Ronaldo’s complaints that they are not good enough for a team of United’s stature.

The group appear to have enjoyed their visit to the club, as CBS Sports have claimed that they have been “warmly welcomed” according to the delegation and that talks, which continued into the afternoon, have been positive.

During their time at the club, they will have got the chance to oversee United’s financials as well as getting an understanding of the commercial side, which could help bidders in their valuation.

The Glazers have set an asking price of at least £5billion and initial offers from Jassim and Ratcliffe have reportedly been way under the valuation, though reconsiderations are expected to be made after both visit the club and are given a view at United’s financial records.

New bids are expected in the near future, as the Glazers have set a new deadline for those offers. As many as eight groups are said to be interested in a potential partial or full takeover at United, though the current owners have set a 10-day deadline for new bids to reach Raine Group – who are overseeing the sale, according to the Daily Mail.

The Glazers reportedly favour the Qatari offer as it may allow them to open up business opportunities in the Middle East in the future, according to reports, which would be a blow to Ratcliffe and may have further pushed the Brit to attend Friday’s visit in person while Jassim is absent from his delegation.

According to Sky Sports, Jassim is completely committed to purchasing 100 per cent of the club though is wary of bidding against himself and is prepared to walk away from negotiations if necessary having already been warned about any potential deal by his father Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
