Sergio Ramos has been ruled out for at least the next three matches after sustaining a hamstring injury during Spain’s 6-0 mauling of Germany.

Ramos becomes the latest player to be injured on international duty and has now returned to the Spanish capital for further treatment.

The extent of Ramos’ hamstring issue means the Real Madrid captain will now miss his side’s upcoming matches against Villarreal, Inter Milan and Alaves, Spanish publication Marca has confirmed.

Ramos, 34, went down in a heap as Spain were leading 3-0 in midweek and immediately signalled to the bench that he had an issue.

The news places Madrid in a troubling situation, with fixtures now piling up thick and fast heading into the festive period.

Madrid face Villarreal, Inter, Alaves, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Atletico Madrid all before Christmas.

What is more, the Spanish giants have been defeated in seven of their last eight Champions League games without Ramos in the team.

Earlier in the season Madrid flopped in the groups without Ramos and suffered a humiliating loss to Shakhtar Donetsk. 

Last season Zinedine Zidane’s squad were ultimately eliminated from the competition after Ramos was unable to play in the knock-out stages against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

In other concerning news Madrid’s Frenchman Raphael Varane has also touched back down from international duty with a shoulder complaint, meaning Madrid could be without their first choice central defensive pairing.

Madrid, however, have been boosted by Eder Militao’s return to training after testing negative for Covid-19. 

At present Madrid currently sit fourth in La Liga with 16 points after eight matches, and third in Group B in the Champions League with four points, level with Shakhtar and one adrift of leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.
