Real Madrid 'draw up shortlist of Martinez, Werner and Haaland'

Real Madrid ‘draw up shortlist of strikers they want to buy this summer’ with Lautaro Martinez, Timo Werner and Erling Haaland among targets

  • The Spanish giants hope third time’s the charm after Jovic and Diaz failures
  • Marca reports Los Blancos have drawn up a three man shortlist to pursue
  • Lautaro Martinez, Timo Werner and Erling Haaland are strong contenders

Real Madrid have drawn up a shortlist of strikers as Los Blancos plot a big summer of signings as Zinedine Zidane looks to bolster his attacking options.

The Spanish giants have long struggled to find a suitable replacement for the goals provided by Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit for Juventus in 2018.

The arrivals of Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic have failed to fill the void and Madrid chiefs are hoping third time’s the charm as they look for another striker to bring in this summer.

The Spanish club are hoping third time’s the charm after the failures of Luka Jovic and Diaz

According to Marca, the La Liga club have shortlisted Lautaro Martinez, Timo Werner and Erling Haaland as targets to improve their front line.

As it stands, Zidane is heavily reliant on the ageing Frenchman Karim Benzema, whose form has dropped off since the turn of the year.

It is believed Madrid would have to pay a pretty penny to obtain the services of any of those three options and should they go for Martinez, they are likely to be met with a bidding war with arch rivals Barcelona over the £94million-rated star.

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is also a reported target and is on the radar of a host of top clubs

RB Leipzig’s Werner has been linked with a move to European champions Liverpool with manager Jurgen Klopp believed to be a big admirer of his countryman. Werner revealed last week he was flattered by the links with the English giants.

Meanwhile, Haaland has set European football alight with dazzling performances for RB Salzburg before sealing a switch to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Erling Haaland is a man in demand after dazzling performances this season and is worth £65m

The son of Alf-Inge has taken German football by storm having scored 12 goals in 8 games for his new club, including a stunning brace against Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League.

The Spanish report suggests that a deal with Dortmund may be possible due to the two club’s strong relationship. They have done business in the past and both get on well with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.

The Norwegian striker is believed to be worth around £65million and would not occupy a non-EU place in the squad, which would not be the case if they pursued Martinez.
