Real Madrid appear to have begun the chase for Kylian Mbappe after reportedly having a £137million bid turned down by Paris Saint-Germain. Here, Express Sport looks at how Carlo Ancelotti’s side could line up if they secure the sensational signing of the World Cup-winning France star before the transfer window shuts next week.
Goalkeeper – Courtois
The goalkeeping position picks itself, with Thibaut Courtois having established himself as one of the world’s best.
Belgium star Courtois was ever present last season as Madrid reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished second in La Liga.
And having previously reached the final of Europe’s top club competition with Atletico, the 28-year-old will no doubt be hopeful of finally getting his hands on the trophy should Mbappe arrive at the Bernabeu.

Defence – Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy
Madrid’s defence is embarking on a new era after Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane left to join PSG and Manchester United respectively.
Eder Militao is expected to step up to fill their considerable shoes, joined by David Alaba following his summer switch from Bayern Munich.
Alaba has played at left-back so far this season, but is expected to play alongside Militao at the heart if the defence once Ferlan Mendy returns from injury.
Ancelotti can choose from a couple of decent options at right-back, with Daniel Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez battling for the position.

Midfield – Casemiro, Kroos, Modric
Luca Modric and Toni Kroos are both currently injured, and will face competition to nail down their places in Los Blancos’ engine room this season.
Modric and Kroos are both now in their 30s, and must fend of the challenge of Federico Valverde, 23, and 29-year-old Isco to line up alongside Casemiro.
Valverde and Isco played in Sunday’s draw with Levante in the absence of the veteran pair, and give Ancelotti options as he looks to bring silverware back to the Bernabeu this season.
Attack – Mbappe, Benzema, Hazard
With Mbappe able to play across the forward positions, Ancelotti would have exciting options in attack.
Benzema could continue to lead the line with Mbappe starting on the right, and either Eden Hazard or Vinicius Junior on the opposite flank – with the former Chelsea man having been preferred so far this season.
Or Mbappe could play up front, with Gareth Bale then coming into contention for a place on the right having been Ancelotti’s go-to option for the position so far this season.
Ancelotti could also have the option of twinning Mbappe with Benzema in attack, with two in midfield and two wingers.
Either way, the Madrid boss will have some pretty frightening options at his disposal.
Real Madrid possible XI if Mbappe signs: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy; Casemiro, Kroos, Modric; Mbappe, Benzema, Hazard.
